3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
Baptism is an amazing gift from God. He has reset us and washed our record clean. And yet, I find myself still living like the opening sentence. Though I want to live a life for and with Jesus, I find myself still messing up. That is what so amazing about baptism. In your baptism, you are justified. In other words, God has declared you not guilty.
Through your faith in Jesus that God worked in you at your baptism, God washed all your sins away from the past, the present, and the future. This is so important to remember because the devil is coming to whisper his lies to you. He’s going to tempt you to fall into those sins again. Remember your baptism! Remember that God has saved you from those sins. And when you do fall into those sins, the devil is going to whisper that you’re not good enough for God’s kingdom; that he couldn’t possibly love you.
Remember your baptism! There God declared you not guilty. That’s how he views you right this second. Not guilty! Clean record! Reset to live with him.
