6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.
John’s kind of a weird guy isn’t he? Having a diet of locust and wild honey wasn’t the normal diet during the 1st century. Neither was his fashion choice of clothes made from camel hair and a leather belt. If you want to fit in, start by dressing how everyone else dresses. But that’s the thing, John didn’t want to fit in.
With his fashion choice he was an intentional misfit. See, that type of clothing is what Elijah wore. So as he put on his misfit outfit, he stood out, and it gained him an audience. An audience that he could tell of the coming Messiah. We live in a world where you either want to fit in or you want to stand out. I don’t know which category you fall in, but whichever one you do, don’t let you motivation be for your own glory. Instead, let your motivation be to tell someone about the coming Savior. The one born to save everyone from thier sins.
