A New Year’s Prayer

January 1, 2018

God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

Psalm 46:1-3

Happy New Year! Once again, we find ourselves at the beginning of a brand new year. People are looking forward to new beginnings, new goals, and new dreams for this brand new year. All of that is good. I’m looking forward to the same things.

However, I pray that one aspect of 2018 remains the same as 2017. That is, that God is our refuge and strength. A refuge is the place you run to for shelther and safety. That’s exactly what our God is. He is our ultimate protection and stronghold. My prayer is that 2018 will be filled with happiness and health for you, but 2018 will also probably bring pain of some kind because no one is exepmt from it.
No matter what happens in 2018, know that God is there as your refuge and strength. He is there for you when your heart is breaking. He is there to celebrate the joys with you. He is there to comfort you. He is there to bring you peace. Things may change in 2018, but one thing will always remain the same: God is always with you as your refuge and your strength when you are weak.
