Be Prepared

December 7, 2017

16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Luke 1:16-17

John the Baptist had one purpose and that was to prepare people’s hearts for Jesus. Jesus was getting ready to come but the people were distracted. They were no longer looking for the coming Messiah nor understood what he’d be about. So John went before him to prepare the way.

We are getting ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus once again. There are so many distractions around us during the Christmas season that it can be hard to focus on Jesus. Over the next few weeks, take some time to prepare your hearts and your family’s hearts for Christmas. Take time to consider what Christmas is all about.

Why did Jesus have to be born? What does it mean for you and your family that he was born? What response will you have because your Savior was born? Then with a prepared heart, get ready to greet the newborn king!
